Jensen Huang: The global semiconductor industry will expand 10x within 10 years, and AI agent demand will spark a chip revolution

Jensen Huang said today (28) that as AI agents and robots accelerate their adoption, the target of computers is shifting from “built for humans” to “built for AI and robots.” This demand shift will fundamentally reshape the semiconductor industry’s supply-and-demand landscape.

Compute endpoints rise from 1 billion to 100 billion

Based on Jensen Huang’s estimate from his July 26 Bloomberg interview, the future users of computers won’t be only humans, but will also include more than 100 billion AI agents and tens of billions of robots. In other words, the number of global compute endpoints will jump from the current roughly 1 billion people to a level in the hundreds of billions.

In his view, this change is not a gradual incremental increase, but a qualitative shift that “completely changes the demand structure of the semiconductor industry.” Jensen Huang expects that over the next decade, the global semiconductor industry’s size needs to expand to 10 times today’s level in order to keep pace with the AI agent economy.

NVIDIA’s supply chain expansion plan

To accommodate the sudden surge in demand, NVIDIA is working with Korean and global partners to jointly advance the HBM (high-bandwidth memory) roadmap. On July 24, NVIDIA and SK Group just announced an AI data center plan totaling more than $500B, targeting HBM4 memory supply, with the goal of launching supercomputing clusters at the 2GW level in 2027.

Jensen Huang also pointed out that the semiconductor supply chain is expanding in parallel. From ramping up foundries to upgrading HBM in memory fabs, capital expenditures across the entire supply chain are accelerating upward.

Industry chain resonance in the Taiwan context

As a key node in the global semiconductor supply chain, Taiwan’s direct beneficiaries of this 10x expansion include TSMC’s advanced process capacity, South Asia K’s HBM production lines, and upstream and downstream segments such as memory testing and packaging. If Jensen Huang’s estimates hold true, Taiwan’s semiconductor output value in the 2030s is expected to further increase its share.
