Deep Tide TechFlow message: On July 28, according to Cointelegraph, the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) recently published a quantum-safe white paper and rolled out the industry’s first Quantum Preparedness Index (QPI) to assess how prepared banks are for the security threats posed by quantum computing. The survey results show that the overall QPI score across the banking industry is only 2.3 points (out of 10), with about half of the surveyed institutions not having yet developed formal post-quantum security plans. HKMA aims to achieve a full-industry, perfect score by 2030. The white paper states that once quantum computers can run the Shor algorithm at scale, they could break existing RSA and elliptic-curve cryptography systems, thereby threatening the security of financial transaction authorizations, identity verification, and trust mechanisms.
