Nvidia, forward-looking, invests $5 billion in AI startup SSI owned by OpenAI chief scientist Sutskever
Deep Tide TechFlow news: On July 28, according to a report by Yonhap News Agency citing the Financial Times, Nvidia announced a long-term strategic partnership with AI startup Safe Superintelligence (SSI), with an investment size of about $5 billion (about 7.3 trillion Korean won). SSI was founded after former OpenAI chief scientist Ilya Sutskever left in 2024, and is dedicated to overcoming the limitations of current large language models (LLMs) and developing next-generation AI technology.
Nvidia will provide SSI with access to the Vera Rubin platform, and SSI plans to expand its AI computing power to 10 times the current level within the next year. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said he looks forward to SSI achieving new technological breakthroughs on the basis of the Vera Rubin platform. An analysis by The Wall Street Journal noted that this investment is part of Nvidia’s strategic plan to consolidate its core technical stronghold in the AI chip sector and keep competitive rivals in check.
SSI previously raised $2 billion in funding from top-tier venture capital firms such as Andreessen Horowitz and Sequoia Capital last year, when its valuation reached $73k.
