AI drives a surge in the number of software vulnerabilities found, with Microsoft and Google hitting record highs in security vulnerability disclosures

Mars Finance News on July 28: Reports say that improvements in artificial intelligence capabilities are driving a sharp increase in the number of software security vulnerabilities discovered. Data from the U.S. National Vulnerability Database (NVD) shows that since 2026, more than 45k software vulnerabilities have been recorded, with the count nearing the level for all of 2025. This year, the number of vulnerabilities discovered is expected to reach twice last year’s figure. The number of vulnerabilities disclosed in recent security updates by Oracle, Microsoft, and Google has all hit new highs. Among them, Oracle’s July security update patched 1,449 vulnerabilities, far above 309 in the same period last year; Microsoft disclosed 642 security vulnerabilities in July, nearly five times the same period last year; and Google Chrome’s recent update fixed 433 vulnerabilities, including 401 found internally by Google. Security organizations say that AI tools are enhancing the ability of enterprise security teams to discover vulnerabilities, bringing vulnerability mining speed to levels previously difficult to achieve.
