According to a report by CoinJie.com, Beincrypto reported that the Nationalist Republican Alliance of El Salvador (ARENA) has nominated Maytee Iraheta, while the Farabundo Martí National Liberation Front (FMLN) has nominated Rafael Aguirre to run in the 2027 presidential election. Both candidates oppose Bukele’s Bitcoin strategy. El Salvador canceled Bitcoin’s status as legal tender in February 2025 after reaching a $1.4 billion loan agreement with the IMF; the US dollar became the only official currency. However, the government still maintains a plan to buy about 1 Bitcoin per day, and as of July 27, its holdings have reached about 7,730 BTC.
