Musk predicts that AI will surpass humanity within 5 years, and control over people will be lost within a decade. As The Economist reported on Thursday, Elon Musk said that artificial intelligence will outpace the combined intelligence of humanity in about five years, and people are likely unable to maintain control over AI over the next decade. Speaking with the magazine’s editor-in-chief Zanny Minton Beddoes, the founder of xAI said that AI should have a plan to overtake people in almost every intellectual task, which is likely to lead to an “era of astonishing abundance.” Musk suggested that the world’s leading AI companies hold regular meetings to discuss safety issues and provide each other with limited early access to advanced models before their public release in order to identify dangerous capabilities.
