When investing in gold, no one can guarantee precise profit on every trade. Blindly chasing longs at high levels, holding positions against the trend without setting stop-losses, and often going in with a full position or heavy size—these are the main mistakes that cause most people to get trapped and lose money.

Watching the unrealized loss keep increasing, you grapple internally—reluctant to cut losses but afraid to add more; the longer you hold, the more anxious you become. Some even stay up all night staring at the chart, and their mindset steadily collapses—this is a difficulty many traders have deeply experienced.

Being trapped in a losing position in itself isn’t the scariest part. The worst is letting emotions dictate trading decisions. Clinging to losing trades, arbitrarily adding to average down the cost, frequently stopping out and cutting positions, and repeatedly chasing breakouts then selling off in panic—this only turns a small loss into a large one, turning a minor lock-up into a deep lock-up, and ultimately completely losing the chance to get back to breakeven.

To successfully get untrapped and reverse losses, luck and waiting won’t work. Only by making a detailed trading plan, strictly adhering to risk-control limits, and accurately analyzing the direction of the market can you steadily pull yourself out of the loss swamp. In day-to-day trading, control your entry and exit points well, make advance judgments about swing-trading conditions, and don’t let short-term minor fluctuations distract you.
