People are already shouting that Kimi K3 is “officially open-sourced.” I just opened Hugging Face, and the weights page is still counting down—over 3,100 people are lined up waiting to download.
Right now, the confirmed ways to use it directly are the Kimi App, the web, Kimi Code, and the API. Pricing is also published: cached input is $0.3 per 1 million tokens, regular input is $3, and output is $15.
As for the open weights: K3 has 2.8 trillion parameters and a context window of around 1 million tokens. The official recommendation is to deploy with a supernode using 64 or more acceleration cards. That means even after the weights are actually released, ordinary people probably still won’t be able to bring it home to run on their personal computers.
So there’s no need to rush to download the model.
What most people will truly use is still the API. This big open-source effort is mainly for cloud platforms, research institutions, and companies that have full GPU racks.
