Open AI models may matter more than any single AI company.

Jensen Huang and Elon Musk both understand the same basic idea:

AI only changes the world when millions of people can build with it—not when access is controlled by a few companies with billion-dollar infrastructure.

Today, only a small number of firms can train frontier models, operate massive data centers and afford the computing required at scale.

Open models reduce that barrier.

They allow startups, researchers and individual developers to:

• Build their own AI agents

• Run models on private infrastructure

• Customize AI for specific industries

• Avoid depending entirely on one provider

This does not reduce demand for computing.

It expands it.

When more companies adopt AI, they need more GPUs, CPUs, networking, storage, electricity and data-center capacity.

Open models create more builders.

More builders create more applications.

More applications create more demand for infrastructure.

That is how AI becomes similar to the internet or smartphones:

Not a product used by a small group.

A basic layer of everyday business and life.

There is also a larger question behind this.

If AI eventually creates the productivity and abundance Elon Musk expects, that future cannot depend on one company controlling every model, tool and distribution channel.

Real abundance requires broad access.

It begins when small businesses, researchers and individuals can use AI to create value for themselves.

Closed models may produce powerful products.

Open models may produce an entire ecosystem.

For me, that is why open AI matters.

The biggest long-term opportunity may not belong to one model provider.

It may belong to the infrastructure supporting millions of people who build on top of AI.
