My car got “door-killed” when the other person opened the door into me. Yesterday, the insurance agreed to pay. Today I can’t reach the person anymore, and I didn’t report it to the police at the time. What should I do?
The incident went like this. Yesterday I took my son to an after-school interest class. When I drove into the parking lot, I saw that a person in a Volkswagen parked with their lines crossed. I was worried that if I got out and opened the door, I’d hit them, so I deliberately left some space.
I waited in the car for my son to finish class. Then 5 middle-aged men showed up. I felt they were around 60 on average. They spoke very loudly and were rowdy, and then one of them got in the car. I immediately sensed something was wrong. I thought, don’t let this be a door-kill… and then—bang—it directly bumped into me.
I got out to check. At first, the other side didn’t admit it. I said, “Compare the marks with your car.” Then the driver came over from the front seat with a very good attitude. He filed with insurance. I also heard him on the phone say it was entirely his responsibility. We exchanged contact information and then left one after another.
After I got home, I received a call from Ping An to handle the damage settlement, asking me to go to their partner repair shop. I didn’t agree. Then he asked me how much I wanted. I said, “Back door and body panel: 500+, paint: 500. That’s 1,000 yuan, and we’re even.”
The insurance agreed, and asked me to send photos of my driver’s license and vehicle registration, as well as my bank card information. But today I can’t reach the person anymore. What do I do in this situation? Waiting online—I'm really anxious.
