$BTC Changxin Technology Goes Public, Adding Variables to Global Storage Competition
Changxin Technology has listed on the STAR Market, setting a new record for fundraising on the STAR Market. This marks the global DRAM landscape officially shifting from an oligopoly dominated by three giants—Samsung, SK hynix, and Micron—to a four-player contest, adding a key variable to pricing across the storage cycle.
The large-scale fundraising will continue to be directed into wafer capacity expansion, DDR5 iteration, and R&D of HBM technology, with ample capital to support sustained capacity ramp-up. Overseas leaders will proactively reallocate capacity to tilt toward the high-end HBM segment, intentionally giving up the shortage in the general-purpose DRAM market. Riding the momentum, Changxin will take on orders for consumer electronics and domestic server platforms, as domestic substitution moves into an accelerated implementation phase. In the long run, the additional supply will constrain overseas mega-firms’ capacity management capability, weakening their unilateral pricing power.
However, it is necessary to objectively distinguish the boundaries of competition: Changxin’s share is still limited, and its HBM process lags Korean and U.S.-based manufacturers by 2–3 generations of technology. As a result, the high-end AI storage track is unlikely to directly compete head-on in the short term. Structural differentiation across the sector continues: competition in the general-purpose DRAM arena is intensifying, while HBM is still led by two overseas players.
At the market level, this will change long-term expectations for global storage supply, suppressing not only the market’s long-term oversupply-overhang fears but also one-sided overly optimistic sentiment. At the same time, it will boost demand across China’s semiconductor equipment, materials, and advanced packaging industrial chains. Going forward, key items to track include Changxin’s capacity release schedule, its HBM R&D progress, and overseas manufacturers’ next round of capacity expansion plans.
