My car got “door-killed” by the other driver opening their door into me. The insurance approved coverage yesterday. But today I can’t reach the person anymore, and I didn’t call the police at the time. What should I do?

The sequence of events is like this: yesterday I took my son to an after-school interests class. When I drove into the parking lot, I saw a Volkswagen parked next to me with its line markings crossed. I was afraid that when I got out and opened the door I’d hit him, so I even left extra space.

I waited in the car for my son to finish class. Then five middle-aged men came over. I felt they were around 60 on average. They talked loudly and clamorously got into the car. I immediately sensed something was wrong. I thought, don’t let it turn out to be a door-kill. Sure enough, “clang” — my car directly bumped into it.

I got out to check. At first, the other side didn’t admit it. I told them to compare the marks. Then the owner came over from the driver’s seat with a very good attitude. He filed an insurance claim. I also heard him on the phone say it was his full responsibility. We exchanged phone numbers and then left one after another.

When I got home, I received a call from Ping An about approving the damage assessment team, asking me to go to one of their partner repair shops. I didn’t agree. Then he asked me how much money I wanted. I said: rear door and the car wrap/paint body, 500+ for vinyl/covering, 500 for spray paint; it would be 1,000 yuan total and we’d settle it there and then. The insurance agreed, and asked me to send photos of my driver’s license and vehicle registration, as well as my bank card information. But now I can’t get in touch with the person anymore today… What do I do in this situation? Waiting online—I'm really anxious.
