AI demand rebounds, SK hynix leads gains sending a positive signal

Chip stocks in Japan and South Korea opened strongly, with SK hynix rising more than 2%, becoming an important bellwether for the AI industry chain. The market generally believes that as global AI servers continue to expand, demand for high-bandwidth memory (HBM) remains highly buoyant, and the most difficult period for the storage-chip industry may already be gradually behind it. As a key HBM supplier, SK hynix has been the first to attract capital, also helping the broader AI storage sector to see a rebound trading session.

From an industry perspective, as large models keep upgrading, training and inference both require storage solutions with higher bandwidth and lower latency. HBM, DDR5, and enterprise-grade SSDs remain the fastest-growing sub-sectors over the next few years. Japanese and South Korean chip companies have leading advantages in advanced storage, so whenever expectations for AI investment improve, related stocks often rise first.

For capital markets, this round of gains reflects not only sentiment repair, but also the market’s renewed recognition of the long-term growth logic of AI. If, in the future, cloud computing providers continue to expand capital expenditures, and AI-chip shipments from companies like NVIDIA maintain high growth, the profitability of the storage industry chain still has room for further improvement. In the short term, the AI storage sector is expected to continue its repair momentum, but investors still need to watch how quickly end-market demand recovers and how industry supply changes.
