⚖️ In cases like this, the key variable for USDT is the fund transfer channel
In the Inner Mongolia four-party payment gambling case, the focus can shift from “USDT was used” to the grey payment network itself: third-party payments, merchant shells, overseas gambling websites, and on-chain settlement—how they are stitched into a single funds pipeline. The court has upheld the original verdict in the second instance, showing that it falls within the judiciary’s recognized definition of a real case.
BlockBeats cites case information saying that Zhu and others built a fourth-party payment platform to handle fund settlement for overseas gambling websites; the fund channel involves 10 third-party payment companies and 105 merchants, with settlement amounts exceeding 2.95 billion yuan and illegal profits of about 42.85 million yuan. Ma was found to have profited 2.95 million yuan for not returning the proceeds, and was sentenced to 4 years and 6 months in prison, fined 3 million yuan, and ordered to forfeit illegal gains.
The first layer of impact is on the stablecoin compliance narrative. USDT itself was not classified as such, but once it is written into commission settlement and wallet crediting chains, stablecoins will appear more frequently in law-enforcement materials related to payments, online gambling, and underground forex exchange. For regulators, on-chain addresses actually make the flow of funds easier to pin down as evidence.
The second layer of impact is on exchanges and OTC channels. Going forward, when markets assess stablecoin businesses, they cannot look only at circulating supply and trading depth; they must also consider KYC, merchant penetration, wallet risk controls, and the ability to cooperate with judicial requests. A platform that solidifies this infrastructure will earn higher trust; channels that expand relying only on speed and low barriers will continue to see rising costs.
My verification sequence: check whether subsequent court documents disclose more on-chain addresses and the roles of payment companies; check whether exchanges and payment providers strengthen USDT in/outflow risk control; and check in similar cases whether stablecoins are used merely as evidence tools or are further elevated into objects of business regulation. This case is also suitable to observe how fast stablecoin risk control moves from post hoc assistance to preemptive interception.
