This time I brought my son out to play, and I have a pretty deep feeling about it.

Over the past two days at 【Only Dream of the Red Chamber · Theatrical Fantasy City】, the architecture, spatial design, and light-and-shadow effects throughout the whole park have a really strong sense of quality. Yesterday I also watched two major shows, 《Twelve Beauties of Jinling》 and 《Readers》. My wife and I were both completely震撼 throughout—whether it was the stage design, the color combinations, or the performers’ performances, you could tell that a lot of effort had gone into it.
But my son just can’t get interested at all.
My wife and I discussed whether this is how many kids are now, or whether he actually just lacks aesthetic education.
Later I thought that maybe we shouldn’t put it that way. At this stage, kids’ parents obviously place more emphasis on school education, spending a lot of time on tutoring, doing practice questions, and things like that. Even if they have free time, they mostly give it to electronic products (iPAD, phones, game consoles, and so on).
A sense of aesthetics, it seems, really does have something to do with age and life experience. A lot of things I felt were boring when I was little, when I look at them again later as an adult, feel completely different.
Maybe for kids, what matters to him right now is whether it’s fun; while what we see is the design, the atmosphere, the emotions, and what the creators want to express.
So I’m not in a hurry anymore. If I get the chance in the future, I’ll keep bringing him to watch shows and walk around. It’s okay if he can’t understand it now—let’s just leave these things in his memory for now. Maybe when he grows up, and he sees something like this again, he’ll suddenly think of coming here as a kid, and truly feel its beauty.
