An Iranian merchant ship was attacked in the Caspian Sea. Iran’s foreign minister: We must not fail to respond.

Late on July 26 local time, Iran’s Foreign Minister Araghchi posted on a social media platform saying that Ukraine attacked an Iranian merchant vessel, killing one crew member, in a move that “openly violates the United Nations Charter.” Araghchi said he had spoken separately by phone with Josep Borrell, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, and with Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov, and made it clear that Ukraine’s action “must not go unanswered.” Iran’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs previously issued a statement saying that on July 25, after an Iranian merchant vessel in the Caspian Sea was attacked by Ukraine, an explosion occurred.
