To trade, you must learn to stay in cash. Staying in cash is the highest-level hunting.
The root cause of most traders losing money has never been that they can’t read the market—it’s that they can’t tolerate the loneliness of being in cash.
The order book moves every moment; candles keep tugging back and forth, and the market constantly manufactures the illusion of “it looks like there’s a chance.” Wanting to enter because your hands are itchy, being afraid of missing out, and always trying to profit from every segment of the move—frequent entries are the beginning of ongoing losses.
Being in cash isn’t giving up opportunities; it’s actively choosing to wait.
A hunter doesn’t fire an arrow at every ripple in the wind; they quietly lie in ambush, waiting until the prey fully enters the ambush zone, when the risk-reward ratio is excellent and the signals are highly certain—then they strike decisively.
When there’s no opportunity that fits your trading system, holding cash is the best position. Cash doesn’t draw down, doesn’t get trapped, and doesn’t force you to endure the agony of unrealized losses—you keep full control.
Many people misunderstand: only holding positions can make money.
The truth is the opposite—profits come from a few high-quality trades, while losses come from countless times of forcing an entry “just because.”
If you don’t know how to stay in cash, you’ll always be passive and dragged around by the market; if you do know how to stay in cash, you earn the right to select opportunities.
Opportunities are never scarce, but capital is limited. Learn patience and bide your time, restrain the urge to open positions at will, and hunt only the opportunities you can truly read—while staying comfortably in cash and watching during the rest of the time.
In cash, waiting as still as calm water; in motion, leaving like a lightning strike—that is the best way to hunt in trading.
