On July 26, according to Korean media outlet Ket, South Korea’s SK Telecom (SKT) announced the establishment of an artificial intelligence data center (AIDC) dedicated company, “SK Hyper,” and plans to cumulatively invest 14.45 trillion won to drive large-scale expansion of AI data center business. It is expected to first invest 3.3 trillion won, and plans to cumulatively invest 14.45 trillion won by December 2030. It is understood that SK Hyper will ultimately hold 100% equity in the company. It is reported that the newly established SK Hyper will be responsible for the development and commercialization of future large AI data center projects, including early-stage work such as site selection, power infrastructure, and customer commercial partnerships. In addition, it will subsequently introduce external funding such as equity investments from financial investors (FI) and project financing (PF).
