Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in a social media post on the 10th that, due to capacity constraints on the United States’ Patriot air defense system and on Europe’s new-generation SAMP-T type surface-to-air missile system, Ukraine will build a domestically produced anti-ballistic missile system. Zelensky said Ukraine will develop a domestically produced anti-ballistic missile system named FREYA. Its interception capability is comparable to that of the U.S. Patriot air defense system, but it is easier to produce at scale and costs less. Zelensky said that soon Ukraine will hold its first meeting in France regarding the development of the domestically produced anti-ballistic missile system, to brief relevant countries on a plan, so that they can help Ukraine implement the project as quickly as possible. If support is obtained from relevant countries and companies, the FREYA anti-missile system is expected to go into production soon. (Xinhua)
