Good news: Trump orders a pause in airstrikes on Iran
Local time on July 25, Trump ordered the U.S. military to pause a new round of airstrikes on Iran, ending nearly two weeks of consecutive offensive operations. Reports say the move is intended to leave room for diplomatic negotiations, and that the current airstrike effects have already nearly reached their limit. An Omani delegation arrived in Tehran to hold talks around navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, and market expectations are that both sides could reach an agreement by this weekend. Ongoing conflict has pushed Brent crude oil above $100, further increasing pressure on U.S. oil prices. The fiscal burden caused by the fighting, combined with pressure from domestic election campaigns, has also put Trump in a complex strategic dilemma.
