The ETF boom is sweeping across the South Korean market, with net purchases by individual investors nearing 700 trillion won.

Mars Finance reported that on July 26, according to a South Korean media outlet, as the ETF market of South Korean exchanges has grown rapidly this year, the net buying by individual investors in ETFs has reached 70 trillion KRW. This corresponds to 70% of the main board purchase amount. Even if the South Korean stock market sees a pullback this month, the net buying amount by retail investors continues to grow. Based on data released on the 26th by the Korea Exchange (KRX) and financial data company Yonhap Infomax, as of the 24th, this year individual investors in South Korea have net bought ETFs worth 69.5 trillion KRW, approaching 70 trillion KRW. At the same time, individual investors’ net buying in the main board market was 109.9 trillion KRW, accounting for 63.2% of the total net buying by individuals in the main board market. In other words, among the 10 million KRW invested by retail investors in the main board, 6.3 million KRW is used to buy ETFs.
