Damn it—Lao Luo really went in hard this time, and I’m all in!
Today, Luo Yonghao posted a furious rant denouncing TV manufacturers, ripping open the whole internet’s long-suppressed complaints about smart TVs.
Lao Luo replaced two smart TVs for the older woman at home; the so-called “seniors’ mode” is nothing but a prop—she can’t use it at all. There’s clearly a massive amount of content online, yet in the end she can only install a traditional IPTV set-top box to watch TV channels.
Even Luo, who comes from a product manager background, can’t get the current TV interaction to work—how could an ordinary elderly person not feel overwhelmed?
Over the past few years, the evolution of smart TVs has been extremely anti-human: boot-up ads, nested “matryoshka” memberships, a mess of system layers, and a remote packed with dozens of buttons.
Manufacturers turn TVs into ad screens and traffic gateways; to monetize, they make the operation process incredibly complicated. As for the so-called “seniors’ mode,” it’s nothing more than making the font bigger—the underlying logic is still unusable.
