Surrendering someone you love—an arduous, slow process that gradually erodes the happiness within you. Not because your love isn’t strong, but because it feels like the universe never sides with you. You love him with all your heart; you’ve prayed with tears that fell quietly in the night. You’ve hoped that every day would be only about him, but in the end you have to realize that not every feeling deserves to be fought for relentlessly until it’s completely gone. You begin to learn to accept, even though your heart refuses. You start walking away, even though your soul wants to stay. You begin to learn how to smile, amid wounds you can’t heal by yourself. Every day you pretend you’re okay, even though inside your mind his name is still loud, his voice still echoes, his smile you still remember clearly. You try to erase memories, but memories can’t simply be thrown away. You try to love someone else, but nothing can replace the place he occupies. You try to hate, but your heart stays gentle whenever you talk about him. And through all of it, you continue to love in silence, in distance, in longing you can’t express. You learn to let go without deleting the feeling; you learn to accept without truly being willing; and you learn to walk alone without any clear direction. And maybe this is the quietest form of love—when you have to let go of someone you know you’re the only one who wanted to hold forever. You still pray for his happiness, even if it isn’t with you. You still hope he’s doing okay, even though you yourself have never really been okay since losing him. And finally, you realize that love isn’t always about having—it’s about the courage to let go, when staying with him only hurts you deeper every day. Hard to forget him
