According to INBi, François Garcin, who was responsible for setting up “MARA France” for MARA Holdings and for advancing the acquisition of Exaion, a subsidiary under EDF, France’s electricity group, has filed a lawsuit against MARA in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, seeking payment of more than €11 million in fees and commissions. The 40-page public complaint document discloses internal materials behind the acquisition and detailed accounts of intensive lobbying, including moving the approval process forward by hiring former Engie CEO Gérard Mestrallet, using special provisions from the Choose France summit, and arranging meetings with former President François Hollande. The lawsuit also alleges that after MARA completed its investment and, at the end of February 2026, obtained conditional approval from the French government, it unreasonably terminated the contract in early March and refused to pay the remaining balance.
