Most traders think hedging means they are bearish. I don’t.
To me, hedging is about protecting capital—not predicting the future.
Imagine you have been building a long-term portfolio for years. You still believe in the companies you own, but the daily structure has clearly turned bearish.
Do you have to sell everything?
Not necessarily.
One option is to keep your long-term holdings and open a small, low-leverage short position as a temporary hedge.
If the market continues lower, the short position can reduce part of the drawdown.
If the market recovers and confirms a new uptrend, simply close the hedge and let your long-term investments continue working.
The key is understanding that a hedge is not another bet. It is a form of risk management.
Many traders focus on maximizing returns.
After my own costly mistakes, I focus on surviving long enough to achieve them.
Protecting capital is sometimes more valuable than finding the perfect entry.
How do you manage risk when the long-term outlook is bullish, but the short-term trend turns bearish?
