The U.S. SEC today announced that it will hold a roundtable on September 17, 2026 to discuss the transition of the U.S. stock market to 24-hour trading, including preparations to support overnight trading, the operation and resilience of a 24-hour market, as well as opportunities and challenges associated with expansion.

U.S. SEC Chair Paul S. Atkins said: “We are moving toward a brand-new day-and-night trading model for the U.S. stock market. As overnight trading expands, I’m pleased to see the U.S. stock market align with those markets that trade around the clock, and I look forward to achieving a balance in day-and-night trading while safeguarding the rights and interests of investors and clients.”

The roundtable will be open to the public and will be held at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission headquarters at 100 F Street NE, Washington, D.C.

The discussion will be livestreamed on SEC.gov, and a recording will be provided later.

The roundtable agenda and information on the invited speakers will be announced in advance of the event.

Please note that the number of attendees on site may be limited, and all guests must undergo security screening.

Members of the public who wish to comment on 24-hour trading may submit their comments electronically or in paper form. Please submit your comments using only one method. The submitted information will become a public record of the roundtable and will be posted on the website of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). All comments received will be posted in unedited form. Please note that personal identifying information will not be deleted or edited from the comments submitted. You should submit only the information you want made public. All submissions must state the file number 4-913. If submitting by email, please include the file number in the email subject line.
