The notice says Bitchat allows users to communicate anonymously, and its architecture “significantly hinders law enforcement’s lawful interception.” Bitchat is a decentralized messaging app that forwards encrypted messages via a Bluetooth mesh network, without requiring the internet or an account. Since July 20, large-scale protests have erupted across India, with protesters staging demonstrations under the banner of the “BJP (Cockroach People’s Party)” flag over a national exam scandal. The government has repeatedly shut down the internet at protest sites. The takedown order targets tools that make it easier to bypass shutdowns.
