Are long positions trapped at high gold levels? What to do next?

This week, gold saw a roller-coaster move—rising sharply then quickly reversing. Price started from a low of 3982 and climbed to touch a high of 4166, then turned and dropped rapidly, with the low dipping to around 4025. With this sharp selloff, many long positions that chased above 4100 were immediately trapped, leaving their holdings in a passive situation. $XAU

For different trapped-long scenarios, Jinke provides the following de-trapping strategies:

Lightly trapped (4100-4140 range): When price retests the 4025-4030 support zone, add to the long positions to pull down the average entry; then, when it rebounds toward the 4090-4100 resistance area, close everything to exit. Riding this rebound should significantly narrow the loss.

Heavily trapped (above 4140): First, reduce positions to release risk and avoid further downside widening the losses; with the remaining position, use 4025 as the defense line to bet on a rebound. After the price rebounds above 4080, cut the position in batches and exit. Never stubbornly hold on waiting for full breakeven. $HYPE

The core of de-trapping is never to hard-hold. It’s about controlling position size, trading in line with the trend—first protect your principal, then talk about getting back to breakeven.
