Prosecutors in São Paulo, Brazil, file charges against World developers, seeking about $47.2 million in damages
Odaily Planet Daily reports that the Public Prosecutor’s Office in the state of São Paulo, Brazil has filed a civil lawsuit against World developer Tools for Humanity and Amazon AWS Serviços Brasil, accusing them of unlawfully collecting iris data of more than 400k people in São Paulo.
The prosecution said that participants received rewards ranging from 300 to 700 reais through iris scanning and were required to pause payment or other benefits in exchange for iris data, permanently delete the collected information, and pay at least 240 million reais (about $47.2 million) in collective damages for mental distress.
