Wang Yi Meets with Iranian Foreign Minister Aragchi

Jin10 Data, July 25—On July 24, Wang Yi, a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and Minister of Foreign Affairs, met with Iranian Foreign Minister Aragchi in Kyrgyzstan during the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation meeting of foreign ministers. Wang Yi said that in recent times, the situation in the Middle East Gulf has once again escalated into renewed tension, and China is deeply concerned. The memorandum of understanding on reconciliation signed more than a month ago is a valuable outcome of mediation and facilitation by multiple parties, embodying the peaceful hopes of Iran and the people of the Middle East for ending hostilities and safeguarding stability. It should not be allowed to come to nothing. Once the door to negotiations has been opened, it should not be shut. As long as there is still hope for peace, it should not be abandoned. The top priority is to adhere to the direction of resolving disputes through negotiations and to return to implementing the consensus reached in the memorandum. As a comprehensive strategic partner, China continues to support the mediation efforts of various parties, including Pakistan, to restore dialogue and negotiations between the parties concerned at an early date and to handle the issue of the Strait of Hormuz appropriately.
