#SummerCreationCamp: My first $5 Loss taught me a $5,000 lesson

Everyone tells stories of making profit in Crypto. They show screenshots of Lamborghini, 10x, 100x. Today I’ll share my Loss story. Because I believe people learn the most from Loss stories.
Two months ago, I opened my first account on Gate. My only goal was—“become rich overnight.” Everyone on YouTube and TikTok kept saying, trade Futures, take 50x Leverage, and after waking up you’ll see your balance has multiplied by 10.
I believed it too.
Day 1: The Big Mistake
I took $10 from my mom for Eid greetings. I deposited it on Gate. At that time, BTC was around $62,000. I looked at the chart, watched 2 YouTube videos, and thought, “BTC will Pump right now.”
No analysis. No risk management. Just courage and greed.
I used $5 out of my $10 to open a Long position in BTC/USDT with 20x Leverage. My position size became $100.
Within 3 minutes of opening the trade, BTC dropped $200.
My heartbeat raced. I panicked and did nothing.
Then, two more minutes later, I got the notification: “Your position has been Liquidated”
In 5 minutes, my $5 was gone. Vanished.
That night I couldn’t sleep. I kept thinking how big of an idiot I was. How would I tell my mom that I wasted the money. I was furious at myself.
Day 2 to Day 7: Lesson Time
The next day, I swore. I wouldn’t trade with emotion. I entered Gate Academy. I started reading articles. I listened to real traders instead of the YouTube gurus.
And in those 7 days, I learned 3 of the most valuable lessons—worth more than $5,000:
Lesson 1: Risk Management is everything
Now I don’t allow more than 2% loss of my Total Balance in a single trade. If I have $100, my maximum loss per trade is $2. That way, even if I make 50 trades wrong, I’ll still stay in the market.
Lesson 2: DCA and Patience
I don’t buy coins with all my money at once. Now I buy BTC with $5 every week. I buy when the price goes up, and I buy when it goes down. This is called Dollar Cost Averaging. It reduces stress.
Lesson 3: Emotion Control
I don’t trade out of FOMO. If someone on Twitter says “100x Coin,” I don’t jump. I research first. I look at the chart. Then I make a decision.
Where am I now?
Today my balance isn’t $5. Alhamdulillah it’s slowly growing. Because I’m not gambling anymore. I’m an investor now.
And all of this started from that $5 Loss. If I hadn’t taken that loss, I wouldn’t be writing articles in this camp today. I wouldn’t have learned.
Two pieces of advice for you:
1. Start with a small amount—$5 or $10. Think of it as Tuition Fee.
2. Learn first, then earn. If you do the opposite, you’ll get caught.
Let me end with one thing to say. In Crypto, everyone comes to win. But the ones who manage to stay are the ones who turn Loss into a teacher.
