CoinWires news: The CEO of Indian pharmaceutical company Dr. Reddy's Laboratories, Erez Israeli, warned that the generic drug tariffs proposed by U.S. President Trump will lead to higher drug prices for patients. He said that generics are a low-profit business and that “this level of tariff cannot be absorbed by companies,” adding that prices are expected to rise in line with the tariff increase. Israeli also noted that companies may need four to seven years to relocate their operations back to the U.S., while the generic drugs Trump announced will face zero tariffs over the next two years. In 2028, a 100% tariff will be imposed, and it will then be raised to 200% within the following year.
