Golden Finance reported that on July 24, local time July 24, the spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General, Dujarric, issued a statement from the Secretary-General. The statement said that Secretary-General Guterres was deeply shocked by the Houthi militia resuming attacks on commercial vessels transiting the Red Sea and once again threatening maritime navigation. The statement noted that the relevant actions could further intensify regional tensions and might draw Yemen deeper into regional conflicts. The statement warned that the continued deterioration of the situation in Yemen would undermine prospects for peace and would have serious impacts on the economy, humanitarian conditions, and the environment in the region and beyond. Guterres called on all parties to immediately ease tensions, urging the Houthi militia to stop all further attacks or other escalatory actions, and to strictly comply with UN Security Council Resolution 2722 and subsequent relevant resolutions regarding the protection of commercial vessels and the preservation of freedom of navigation in the Red Sea. Guterres also emphasized that international navigation rights and freedom of navigation in the Strait of Mandeb and the surrounding waters must be fully restored. (CCTV News)
