#IntelQ2RevenueSurges25%
The Revival of Intel: Biggest Revenue Jump in 15 years shows it is back.
Intel had a massive quarter and is here to provide the needed boost in the chip industry due to the world wide AI boom. Intel recorded $16.13 billion in revenue for Q2 2023, up 25% year-on-year, which blew past analyst estimates of $14.43 billion.
Even the EPS has jumped significantly beating estimates with an adjusted EPS of $0.42 versus the predicted $0.21, suggesting that Intel has managed to improve its performance throughout all of its business segments.
The key to this successful quarter was its Data center and AI business section where revenue climbed by 59% year on year to $6.26 billion. This was an exceptional leap over Intel's overall rise showing the strong appetite there is for AI computing infrastructure, cloud services and data centers.
Even more surprising, Intel’s Foundry section accounted for $5.8 billion in revenue and is also up 31% from a year ago reflecting an increased need for wafer foundry capacity in order to manufacture products powered by AI technologies.
CEO Lip-Bu Tan has said that demand for computing power from AI has been tremendous and he does not see the semiconductor chip shortage easing in the coming years.
With its forecast for next quarter increased following the earnings, Intel has also beaten market expectations, with Q3 revenue predicted at $15.8 billion and $16.8 billion compared to a prediction of $15.06 billion. In response, after hour trading prices jumped by over 13%.
Intel's recent earning success indicates that the demand for AI computing infrastructure has grown beyond just AI chip makers, into the foundries and the main manufacturing plants as well.
With investment in the AI sector only increasing, the rivalry among all these semiconductor companies is becoming very hot.
Do you believe Intel's rebound fueled by AI can pose a significant threat to NVIDIA and AMD's hold on the AI chip market, or will the established leaders continue to dominate?
