Thailand’s SEC files criminal complaint over the 2021 false reporting case against Bitkub and two former directors
Deep Tide TechFlow news: On July 24, according to The Nation Thailand, Thailand’s Securities and Exchange Commission has filed a criminal complaint with the Economic Crime Suppression Division against digital asset exchange Bitkub and its two former directors, alleging that the daily net capital reports submitted after the 2021 hack incident contained false statements. The incident previously led to about 1.7 billion baht worth of digital assets being stolen. Regulators believe Bitkub failed to accurately reflect asset losses and related changes during the period from May to October 2021.
Bitkub responded that the matter only concerns that year’s information disclosure and handling, and that customers’ assets are currently safe and intact. It said the stolen assets have been made whole by the relevant parties, and the incident caused no actual losses to customers. The company also stated it will continue to cooperate with subsequent legal proceedings.
