Deep Tide TechFlow message: On July 24, according to CoinDesk, India’s Cybercrime Coordination Centre has requested that GitHub remove three code repositories related to Bitchat. Bitchat is an open-source offline messaging app developed by Jack Dorsey that can relay encrypted messages and Bitcoin transactions through a Bluetooth mesh network in environments without internet access.
The report said that Delhi protestors used such tools to stay in touch during periods when the government repeatedly implemented network shutdowns. India believes the app’s anonymous communication architecture is not conducive to lawful interception, tracing, and investigations by law enforcement agencies.
