The U.S. SEC announced today that it will hold a roundtable discussion on September 17, 2026, to address the issue of transitioning the U.S. stock market to 24-hour trading, including preparations to support overnight trading, the operation and resilience of 24-hour markets, as well as opportunities and challenges associated with expansion.

U.S. SEC Chair Paul S. Atkins said: “We are moving toward a brand-new day-and-night trading model for the U.S. stock market. As overnight trading expands, I am pleased to see the U.S. stock market align with markets that already trade around the clock, and I look forward to achieving a balance for trading around the clock while safeguarding the rights and interests of investors and customers.”

The roundtable will be open to the public and will be held at the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission headquarters at 100 F Street NE, Washington, D.C.

The discussion will be livestreamed on SEC.gov, and a recording will be provided later.

The roundtable agenda and information about the guest speakers will be published in advance of the meeting.

Please note that the number of attendees for the in-person session may be limited, and all guests will be required to undergo security screening.

Members of the public who wish to comment on 24-hour trading may submit their comments electronically or by paper. Please use only one method to submit comments. The information submitted will become part of the roundtable meeting’s public record and will be posted on the website of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). All comments received will be posted exactly as submitted, without being deleted or edited. Those submitting comments should note that personal identifying information will not be removed or edited from the comments submitted. You should submit only the information you want to be made public. All submissions must indicate docket number 4-913; if submitting by email, please include docket number in the email subject line.
