Holy crap, a year-end bonus of 3.17 million—what does that even mean?

Tencent’s WeChat Business Group (WXG) recently handled a sensational internal data leak case that went viral across the entire internet:

A 3.17 million “sky-high” incentive exposed: a year-end income screenshot that had been circulating wildly online showed that the person involved, Ye, received more than $820k in cash and $2.35 million in stock, for a total close to $3.2 million.
Because the screenshot included Tencent’s internal watermark, after it was shared onto external platforms, it quickly sparked a controversy over salary disclosure, crossing Tencent’s “high-pressure line” regarding “information security violations and leaking confidential information.”
Although the person involved earned the top performance rating “Outstanding” for their team, twice, landing in the top 10% to 20% in 2025, they were still directly dismissed by the company and added to a blacklist, never to be hired again.
