📉 Market Update: Risk appetite cools off as crypto market comes under pressure and slides lower

Today’s overall crypto market is weak, hit by a double blow from heightened geopolitical tensions in the Middle East and a delay in U.S. regulatory legislation.

· Bitcoin (BTC): Fell below the $65,000 threshold; the 24-hour drop is about 1.1%-1.5%, trading around $65,000.
· Ethereum (ETH): Underperformed further, down about 2.3%-2.8%, with the price around $1,822.
· Other major coins: XRP down about 2.4% (around $1.10-$1.11); Solana down about 2.2% (around $76.19).
· Market sentiment: The Fear and Greed Index has dropped to 31, placing it in the “Fear” range.

🔍 Three major drivers behind the selloff

1. Escalation in the Middle East situation: Trump said he is “considering a large-scale attack on Iran.” International oil prices jumped by more than 7% to break above $100, dealing a serious blow to risk-asset appetite, including stocks and crypto.
2. The U.S. regulatory bill “drags on”: The odds that the highly anticipated “Clarity Act” will pass before August 7 have fallen, intensifying market concerns over uncertainty in U.S. crypto regulation.
3. A leveraged long “stampede”: In the past 24 hours, forced liquidations across the entire network totaled about $150 million, of which 71.7% were long positions, accelerating the price decline.

📰 Other important news

· Robinhood CEO account hacked: His X account was compromised in the early hours, and it posted fake Meme coin information. The coin’s market cap surged to $10.52 million at one point before collapsing sharply; the official has deleted the post and is intervening.
· “BTC share swap” by a listed company: ZhiBao Technology, listed on Nasdaq, plans to sell shares in exchange for about 3,500 BTC (worth about $220 million).
· A “Satoshi” wallet anomaly: About $5,000 worth of BTC was transferred into a Satoshi-related long-dormant wallet. Because the private keys were lost long ago, these coins have been “permanently destroyed,” with limited impact on the market.
· DeFi protocol suspends operations: The operating company of the DEX aggregator Odos is winding down operations, and services will be fully shut down on July 30.

💎 Summary

Today’s market drop is the result of a three-way convergence of factors: geopolitical risk (Middle East), macro uncertainty (regulation), and internal market structure (a long “stampede” liquidation). For the short term, it’s still necessary to closely watch the Middle East situation and the Federal Reserve’s interest-rate decision at the end of the month.
