Trump threatens a large-scale attack on Iran, Brent crude breaks $100, Bitcoin falls below 65k
On July 23, U.S. President Trump confirmed to Axios that he is considering launching an "unprecedented large-scale military operation" against Iran, saying, "I’m close to making a decision." The same day, Iran-backed Houthi forces attacked two Saudi oil tankers in the Red Sea with ballistic missiles and cruise missiles. This caused Brent crude to surge 7% in a single day, breaking above $100.66 per barrel, while WTI crude rose 6.3% to $92.28. The spike in oil prices has reignited inflation concerns, and traders raised the odds of a Fed rate hike in September from single digits to nearly 40%. Bitcoin then fell below $65,000, with a 24-hour drop of about 2%. Earlier in July, when Trump announced an end to the Iran ceasefire, BTC had plunged 3% in a single day to $61,691. Goldman Sachs warned that if disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz and the Strait of Mandeb persist, Brent crude could break $120.
Market impact assessment: Negative (geopolitical conflict escalates + inflation expectations resurface + rate-hike odds jump—triple pressure on risk assets)
Affected assets: BTC, ETH, SOL, risk assets across the whole market
Bitcoin ETFs see consecutive 7-day net inflows nearing $1 billion! Ethereum ETF attracts more than BTC in a single day
According to Sosovalue data, on July 23 U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded net inflows of $68.99 million, the seventh consecutive trading day of net inflows. Total net inflows over 7 days reached $999.4 million, approaching the 1 billion mark. BlackRock’s IBIT led with $38.78 million in inflows that day. Grayscale’s Bitcoin mini trust followed with $37.88 million, and Fidelity’s FBTC contributed $21.49 million. More notably, Ethereum ETFs saw net inflows of $72.64 million that day, surpassing Bitcoin ETFs. BlackRock’s ETHA pulled in $53.47 million in a day, while Fidelity’s FETH contributed $19.18 million—none of the Ethereum ETFs recorded net outflows. Ethereum ETFs have posted net inflows for 4 consecutive days, totaling $184.9 million. However, SOL ETFs recorded net outflows of $1.27 million.
Market impact assessment: Positive (institutional funds continue to enter; BTC+ETH dual drivers; ETF demand provides a buffer against declines)
Affected assets: BTC, ETH, ETF concept sector
Robinhood CEO’s X account is hacked, “Vladhood” token scam rugs $1.3 million
On July 23, Robinhood co-founder and CEO Vlad Tenev’s X account (nearly 800k followers) was hacked. The attacker posted fake content promoting a token called “Vladhood” (VLAD), falsely claiming it is Robinhood Chain’s official mascot and that it is coming to the Robinhood App. The token’s market cap briefly spiked to about $10 million. Before the crash, the hacker’s wallet cashed out around 690 ETH (about $1.3 million). Robinhood’s official communications account confirmed the hack that day and deleted the posts. About 70% of the token supply was controlled by the earliest wallets, and liquidity was never locked. Since launching on July 1, Robinhood Chain (an Ethereum L2 built on Arbitrum Orbit) has accumulated DEX trading volume of about $9 billion, but it is dominated almost entirely by high-risk MEME coins rather than the RWA track it was positioned for.
Market impact assessment: Negative (security issue with exec accounts exposes trust gaps; MEME chaos drags down Robinhood Chain’s ecosystem credibility)
Affected assets: ARB (Robinhood Chain built on Arbitrum), MEME sector
The CLARITY Act is about to hurdle the Senate! 7 Democrats openly oppose the current draft
On July 22, Senate Republicans released an updated version of the CLARITY Act, adding ethical provisions that prohibit federal officials (including the president) from issuing or sponsoring digital assets. Violators would face a $250k fine per day. However, on the same day, seven Democratic senators issued a joint statement saying the current version is still not up to standard in “official ethics, consumer protection, illegal finance, conflicts of interest, and market integrity,” noting that two of them had previously voted in favor in the banking committee. Senate Majority Leader Thune said next week he will force a full Senate vote, regardless of whether Democrats support it. On Polymarket, the probability the bill is signed in 2026 has fallen from 60% in May to 39%. The bill needs 60 votes to break through the lengthy debate. Currently, Republicans have only 54 seats, leaving a large gap.
Market impact assessment: Slightly positive/neutral (the direction of the regulatory framework remains unchanged, but short-term political maneuvering adds uncertainty)
Affected assets: BTC, ETH, SOL, XRP, whole market (the bill will clarify SEC/CFTC jurisdiction)
