NVIDIA Signs a $1.5 Billion Chip Packaging Agreement with Amkor

Golden Finance reported that on July 24, Nvidia and Amkor Technology Inc. signed an agreement worth $1.5 billion to support the latter in upgrading its chip packaging facilities and expanding its footprint in the U.S. semiconductor industry. According to a statement released on Thursday, Nvidia will make an upfront payment to Amkor under the agreement to help it increase production capacity in Arizona. After the news was announced, Amkor surged by about 15% in after-hours trading. The two companies said the collaboration will focus on chip packaging and testing technologies for AI applications. Packaging is a critical last step in the semiconductor manufacturing process. (China Finance Network)
