Brother Sun is here to join the hype too! Just how outrageous is Peking University’s Class of 2007 mathematics department?

Insiders call it the “super super golden generation.” In one grade alone, there are two Fields Medal winners. The list is packed with top-tier giants in the industry. Saying it’s on the level of a “ceiling” for domestic mathematics departments would hardly be an exaggeration.

Even funnier: Sun Yuchen is also from Peking University’s Class of 2007, but from the history department. He himself joked that in his first year he went to “sponge off” mathematical analysis, and after pushing through for a few weeks, he couldn’t take it anymore—so he immediately dropped the course.

As expected, the difficulty of a top mathematics program is so high that even a Peking University academic overachiever can’t handle it.
