Brent Crude Rises Again, Reclaiming $100 in the Market ✨
Brent crude has officially risen back above the $100 per barrel level, up about 42% in just 20 days.
🔹 The current level is around $100.74, with an intraday gain of about 7.1%
🔹 The 20-day increase is about 42%
🔹 WTI is around $91.40, up about 5.3%
🔹 Triggers: US-Iran tensions and slowing tanker traffic in the Strait of Hormuz
🔹 Additional pressure: attacks on tankers linked to the Houthis in the Red Sea and rising risks for the Bab el-Mandeb pipeline
The Strait of Hormuz handles roughly 20% of global oil flows, and in recent weeks it has effectively been constrained. The Red Sea pipeline handles about 7% of global flows, and attacks on this pipeline raise concerns about a second bottleneck.
According to a Goldman Sachs scenario analysis, if the restrictions in Hormuz continue, Brent crude could fall to a range of $110-$120. In a more optimistic scenario, if flows recover, prices are expected to drop to around $80 by the end of the summer season.
From the market side, oil inventories are supported by the rally, while broader indices remain under pressure. The S&P 500 futures feature declined by about 1.1%. In Europe, strategic reserves are expected to be used more sparingly this time, and OECD stocks that are below the five-year average reduce the buffer.
In conclusion, the $100 threshold has re-emerged as both a psychological and technical benchmark, and the upside risk premium remains intact as supply disruptions continue.
