China’s Key Breakthrough in Brain-Computer Interfaces: First Achievement of Synchronized EEG Signal Collection Across More Than a Thousand People Across Different Regions

Golden Finance reported that on July 23, according to CCTV Finance and Economics, brain-computer interfaces are an important track for global future industries, and large-scale, high-quality EEG data is the core foundation for driving technology from the lab to industrialization. Yesterday afternoon, a research team in China released a new type of EEG signal acquisition device, achieving for the first time globally cross-regional synchronized EEG signal collection of over a thousand people, taking a key step in the development of general technologies for training neural foundation models and brain-computer interfaces. The research team said that to achieve thousand-person-level cross-regional synchronized acquisition, they overcame two major technical challenges: first, while miniaturizing the devices, ensuring signal acquisition accuracy; second, overcoming the impact of network latency to achieve millisecond-level precise time alignment among multiple devices across multiple regions, ensuring that different EEG signals can be analyzed uniformly. In the future, large-scale EEG acquisition technology will continue to accumulate data for training neural foundation models. This also means that AI training materials will no longer be limited to indirect information such as text, images, and videos, but can directly understand a person’s cognitive state through neural signals.
