#跟单日记 Can copy-trading in the crypto market make money? What risks are there in copy-trading?

Many traders have experienced copy-trading, or are currently experiencing it, because copy-trading is seen by many as the simplest way to trade—you just need to find the right person. It looks like a shortcut to quickly “make money while lying down,” but in reality it hands over your fate entirely to someone else. So where are the risk points in copy-trading? Is it possible to make money? I’ll share some of my thoughts as food for discussion with everyone!

1、What you see isn’t necessarily real.
First, those profitable trade orders you can see are only what they want you to see; the losing orders they won’t show you.
Second, what you see may be only one account. Another account might place trades in the opposite direction. In the end, they only post the account that is correct.

2、The test of ethics and self-interest.
Most “signal/copy-trading instructors” have their earnings tied to trading volume, not to the copy-trader’s profit. They don’t care how much you can make; they only trade frequently, so they can earn more commissions. Even worse, some may partner with certain non-compliant smaller exchanges to share in the losses of victims.

3、Risks in the copy-trader’s own cognition and behavior
Treating copy-trading as a tool for getting something for nothing leads to giving up your own learning and independent thinking. There’s no position management: every time you copy-trade you go in with full allocation. Even when you see consecutive profits, you blindly add more. When you see consecutive losses, you blindly cut nothing and stop-losses become ineffective. When making money, you want to make even more—at this point, it doesn’t matter who tells you to exit. After losses, you also don’t strictly follow a stop-loss strategy; you just “hold and hope” (die holding).

These are the risk points—but not all copy-trading is risky. If your goal is to learn other people’s trading experience and methods, then your approach would be completely different.

The trading market is harsh by nature, but it is also fair. The road you should walk won’t be missing a single step. After ordinary traders go through it, they will only absorb the painful lessons, then slowly reflect and grow. But excellent traders can learn from other people’s failures and take fewer detours. When you want to trade by copying others, you should calm down and think: what can copy-trading really give you? Can it truly help you make money?
