BNY’s tokenized U.S. Treasury bond pilot will launch by the end of this year, aiming to enable 24/7 U.S. Treasury settlement in 2027

According to Bloomberg, BNY Mellon is building supporting infrastructure and plans to provide 7×24 uninterrupted U.S. Treasury trading and settlement services in 2027 to accommodate the expansion of the digital-asset market, along with the transformation challenges faced by traditional financial infrastructure.

Earlier this year, the bank completed post-trade U.S. Treasury transaction tests involving stablecoin issuers. Participants included Ripple, which issues RLUSD, and OpenEden, which issues USDO, and they verified that government bond trades related to digital-asset ecosystems can break through traditional delivery-time limits.

Under the plan, the bank will roll out tokenized U.S. Treasuries and conduct pilot trades on its own private blockchain by the end of 2026. The goal for 2027 is to provide 24/7 settlement services for traditional Treasuries and tokenized Treasuries, leveraging blockchain to optimize clearing processes and reduce trading friction.

Overall, BNY Mellon’s 24/7 digital-asset Treasury settlement plan marks a key step in traditional financial infrastructure actively adapting to the digital-asset market’s expansion.

With the on-chain settlement of the trillion-scale U.S. Treasury market being introduced one after another, it is expected to significantly improve market capital liquidity, substantially shorten settlement cycles, and provide a practical technical path and solutions for transformation in traditional financial markets.
