💰 GUSD Upgrades Its Minting System: Stablecoin Utility Continues to Expand
Stablecoins are becoming more than just a way to move funds between exchanges. With the latest update, GUSD has expanded its utility by introducing 1:1 minting with USD1, making it easier for users to access the ecosystem while earning passive returns.
The updated mechanism allows eligible users to mint GUSD using USDT, USDC, or USD1 at a 1:1 ratio, providing greater flexibility for managing stable assets. In addition, holders can earn a 3.8% annualized yield, with rewards distributed daily through automatic reinvestment. This means returns can compound over time without requiring manual claims.
Another notable feature is that GUSD is designed to work across multiple products within the ecosystem. Instead of simply holding the stablecoin, users may also be able to participate in services such as Launchpool, Pre-IPO opportunities, and other wealth management products, allowing a single asset to support multiple earning opportunities where available.
According to the announcement, GUSD's yield is backed by a combination of U.S. Treasury real-world assets (RWAs) and Gate ecosystem revenue. This reflects a broader trend in digital finance, where tokenized real-world assets are increasingly being integrated into blockchain-based products to generate sustainable returns.
The stablecoin market has evolved significantly over the past few years. While earlier generations focused mainly on price stability and payments, newer products are combining stability with additional utility, including yield generation and participation in decentralized and centralized financial services.
As always, users should understand how any yield-generating product works, including its eligibility requirements, underlying assets, and associated risks. Higher utility can provide more opportunities, but it is important to evaluate products carefully before participating.
The continued development of stablecoin ecosystems shows that digital dollars are becoming more versatile financial tools rather than simple payment tokens.
Do you think yield-generating stablecoins will become a major part of the future digital economy, or will traditional stablecoins remain the preferred choice?

The RWA-backed annualized rate of 3.8% is more reliable than those earlier algorithmic stablecoins, but you still need to read the compliance and lockup conditions carefully.

Automatic reinvestment is definitely hassle-free, and the returns are even steadier than in many DeFi pools.

Traditional stablecoins mainly just handle transfers, and tokens like GUSD—offering interest-bearing features and multiple use cases—really look like the future form of digital dollars, but the user education barrier is also not low.

Stablecoins can earn returns at the same time, participate in Launchpool, and take part in Pre-IPO. It feels like GUSD wants to build an ecosystem entry point, but whether the liquidity is sufficient is the key.

Double support from RWA ecosystem revenue in USD: the yield is pretty decent right now. But it’s unclear how long Gate’s ecosystem can hold up—depends on real asset audits.
