#EventContractsLaunch
The Market Just Got a New Playbook and It Doesn't Require a PhD in Derivatives
There's something refreshingly honest about a product that tells you exactly what you're getting into. No leverage calculations that make your head spin. No margin calls that wipe you out at 3 AM. No liquidation engines humming in the background, waiting for the slightest price wobble to take your position apart.
Gate just rolled out Event Contracts, and the premise is almost disarmingly simple: pick a direction, pick a timeframe, and let reality do the settling.
You're staring at an event like "BTC 5-Min Up/Down (14:15–14:20)." You think Bitcoin's price at 14:20 will be higher than it was at 14:15 you buy "Up." Think otherwise? Buy "Down." Each contract trades between 0.01 and 0.99 USDT on an order book, which means the price itself reflects what the crowd thinks the probability is. If "Up" is trading at 0.65 USDT, the market is roughly saying there's a 65% chance BTC climbs in that window.
If your call is right, each contract settles at exactly 1 USDT. Clean. No settlement fees, no surprise deductions. If you're wrong, the contract goes to zero and that's your total loss. Not "your loss plus a funding rate plus a slippage penalty." Just the cost of the contracts you bought. The floor is visible before you ever place the order.
Perpetual futures are powerful, but they're also complex. Leverage, margins, liquidation thresholds, funding rates that flip every eight hours it's a machine with a lot of moving parts, and if one of them catches you off guard, the whole thing can come down on you. Event Contracts strip all of that away. There's no leverage. No liquidation mechanism. No margin call. Your risk is defined at entry and cannot exceed what you put in.
That doesn't make them "safe" you can still lose your entire position if the market moves against you. But the loss is bounded, known, and unambiguous. For traders who've been burned by the opacity of leveraged products, that's a meaningful shift.
You can also exit early. Before the event settles, you can sell your contracts back through the order book take profit if the probability has swung your way, or cut losses if it hasn't. You're not locked in until the clock runs out.
The initial lineup supports BTC and ETH price direction events across four timeframes: 5 minutes, 15 minutes, 1 hour, and 4 hours. That's short-cycle trading by design — these aren't month-long bets on macro trends. They're quick reads on momentum, designed for people who want to act on what they see happening right now, not what they think might happen six weeks down the road. More assets and timeframes are expected to follow.
And Gate is putting $50,000 behind the launch
The Launch Carnival runs July 21 – July 31, 2026, and the reward structure is built to pull in both the cautious first-timer and the volume-heavy regular:
Reward 1 First Order Loss Coverage ($10,000 pool): The first 2,000 users whose initial trade ends in a loss get compensated for that loss, up to $5 each. It's essentially a safety net for your first move you can dip your toe in without worrying that a bad first read costs you anything. This alone makes it worth registering before the 2,000 slots fill.
Reward 2 Profit Doubling ($20,000 pool): Your net profits from Event Contracts throughout the event period get doubled at payout, with a $500 per-user cap. The pool is distributed in descending order of net profit until it's exhausted. If you're confident in your directional calls, this is where the upside compounds.
Reward 3 Trade Sprint ($20,000 pool): Hit $1,000 in cumulative trading volume (buy + sell) and you share the pool proportionally, maxing out at $1,000 per user. This rewards consistency and activity the more you trade, the larger your slice.
All rewards require Identity Verification and registration during the event period. Payouts happen within 7 business days after the carnival closes.
Open the Gate App (v8.28.5 or later), head to the Futures page, and switch to the Events tab. That's it. First-time users need to complete a brief Innovation Trading Disclaimer quiz and sign the User Agreement standard procedure for new product categories on Gate.
Event Contracts sit in an interesting space. They're not quite prediction markets in the Polymux sense you're trading on price outcomes, not election results or sports scores. But the probability-based pricing structure (contracts trading between 0.01 and 0.99) borrows from that world. And they're not quite futures no leverage, no margin, no perpetual structure. They're something in between: a directional product with binary settlement, defined risk, and an order book that lets you read the crowd's conviction in real time.
For traders who find perpetuals too mechanically complex but want more flexibility than a simple spot position, Event Contracts might be the missing middle. The 5-minute and 15-minute windows especially they're fast enough to feel actionable, short enough to keep your attention sharp, and settled so quickly that capital isn't tied up waiting for resolution.
The launch carnival makes the first week essentially cost-free to explore. Between the loss coverage on your first trade and the profit doubling on any wins, the net risk-reward profile during the event period is unusually favorable. Whether the product holds up as a long-term trading tool depends on how the order book liquidity develops and how many timeframes and assets Gate adds over time. But right now, the entry conditions are about as friendly as they get.
The bottom line: Event Contracts give you a cleaner way to express a directional view you know your max loss before you click, you know your payout if you're right, and you can walk away early if the picture changes. Combined with a launch carnival that effectively subsidizes your first mistake and doubles your first wins, this is a product worth testing while the incentives are live.
Event period: July 21, 2026 02:00 UTC – July 31, 2026 08:00 UTC. Register and trade on the Gate app to qualify.
