NCA report: Crypto industry directly employs 34k people, contributing more than $55B to the U.S. economy

According to the latest report released by the U.S. National Crypto Association (NCA), the U.S. crypto industry directly employs 34k people. After accounting for jobs in the supplier industries and workers’ consumption, it supports a total of 232k jobs.

The industry is expected to contribute more than $55B to U.S. GDP in 2026, including about $31B as workers’ income. This indicates that the crypto industry has become one of the important sources of high-paying employment in the United States.

The report shows that, among directly employed crypto roles, the majority fall into software, blockchain and data engineering, as well as compliance and financial business—exceeding employment in the coffee and tea manufacturing industry (28.4k), cement manufacturing industry (15.3k), and tobacco manufacturing industry (10.6k).

Notably, of the 232k total jobs supported, most are located outside crypto companies. Among them, 75k jobs are classified under supplier industries, and 123k come from the two categories of workers’ household consumption.

In terms of employment distribution, California ranks first with 57.6k supported jobs, followed closely by New York with 53.8k. Together, the two states account for nearly half of the nationwide total. Texas, Washington, and North Carolina rank third through fifth, respectively.

The study was analyzed by Pragmatic Policy Group. The team used an estimate model built on the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis’ 2024 input-output tables to carry out the relevant calculations.

NCA chair and Ripple Chief Legal Officer Stu Alderoty said that the crypto industry has become an important engine of economic growth, producing tangible and positive effects on U.S. employment, wages, and economic growth.
