Every time I chat with my Shanghai colleagues who come to work in other cities and buy a home, they all think Shanghai’s housing prices are too expensive and they can never afford to buy. In fact, that’s a perception created by the media for everyone.

Within the inner ring road: a 2-bedroom apartment of 65 square meters inside a community with a reasonable scale. Around 1998. The lowest price is 2.5 million, with a down payment of 375k, and a monthly mortgage payment (provident fund loan) of 8,006.8.

You can choose something newer and larger to live in, and the price will grow proportionally. Of course, you can also choose to live farther away, and then the price drops again.
